Daytrips in and Around Bangkok

Parks

There are several parks in the city where you can go for a picnic or to let the kids stretch their legs.

Benjasiri Park and recently refurbished children’s playground, open 05:00 - 21:00, near the Phrompong sytrain station.

Lumphini Park, open from 04:30 - 21:00, take the BTS to Chidlom station and then get a number 4, 5 or 15 bus. You can also rent rowing boats or peddalos and enjoy yourself on the lake.

Chatuchak Park, open 05:00 - 21:00, take the skytrain to Mo Chit station.

Amporn Gardens, a large and spacious park with a huge pavilion used for many royal social functions and fairs. On the corner of Si Ayutthaya Road and Rajadamnoen Avenue.

Suan Luang Rama IX - 200 acres of public park with botanical gardens, flower gardens, a pond and public playground. The entrance is on Sukhumviit Soi 103, seven kilometres up the road from the Sukhumvit Road.

Sanam Luang (The Royal Field), between Wat Phra Kaew and Rajadamnoen Avenue (in front of the Grand Palace) - this is the traditional site for royal cremations and other ceremonies. However it is also famous for kite flying at the weekend. You can buy your kit there very cheaply.

Siam Park, this huge recreational park in Bangkapi. offers pools, water slides, a wave pool and lake. Included in the grounds is an amusement park, small zoo, bird park and children's playground. Open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 - 1900 and Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 09:00 - 1900.

Idea

Why not buy a post card from every different place which you visit and get your child to write a few words about their experience, then mail the postcard to yourself. Once you return home, you can use the postcards to remember the highlights of the trip and make a scrap book of the journey.
